Sharp Shinned Hawk Memories
This reminded me of when I lived in San Diego. We had a pair of sharp shinned hawks in the neighborhood. Their were small dense trees in our backyard the sparrows would congregate in. They would chatter excitedly when the hawks were around. The hawks had this perfect teamwork. The female would sit outside the sparrow tree and the male would go into the thicket.
The sparrow chattering would crescendo as they moved to edge of the foliage. Each trying to hold their nerve. Then one would break as the male hopped from branch to branch. In two wing beats the female hawk caught the sparrow as it tried to make it twenty feet to the next tree.
It was a masterclass in hunting.
