Pend d'Oreille Bay Trail

We had our first proper winter temperatures in the twenties yesterday. By afternoon it had warmed up to the mid-thirties with a rare blue sky. I took Mollie out to the bay trail, one we frequented when we moved here but we had not been here in I would guess six months at least. It is a popular trail with dog walkers and runners but has limited parking.

The trail runs along the lake shore with fine views of the snow draped Cabinets across the lake.

The dog walkers of course make it popular with Mollie. She had a fine run and played with the other dogs.

I discovered Bufflehead ducks this day (further down). A wonderful looking saltwater duck which migrates from the Artic. They are quite common and their numbers are in no way threatened. They are amongst the smallest ducks and nest in old woodpecker nests in hollow trees. They are active and they were frequently diving the shallows as we watched them.
