Oregon Coast
Cannon Beach

On our recent trip we travelled down the Oregon Coast. I had not been there since I last lived in Oregon about 20 years ago.
We spent the first night at Cannon beach, one of the more famous beaches with its iconic haystack rock and close proximity to Portland. Because of the economic boom of the Portland area this part of the coast has become expensive and populated. The town of Cannon beach has the neat and orderly look of a well-heeled Pacific coastal town. You have to drive further south (or north) to find more authentic coastal communities.
We stayed in an RV park called The Retreat. It turns out that rather being a benign noun it turned out to be an ominous verb. At $60 a night and poor facilities it offered only the benefit of the sole camping location in the area and its proximity to town and the beach.
We strolled around the beach as the sun set and were treated to some gentle warm light. What was genuinely nice was the mix of cool blue light with the warm setting sunlight.

The next morning Mollie and I walked the beach before breakfast. The light was much cooler.
