Of Mountain Wildflowers

Of Mountain Wildflowers

The best times to travel the West are in the late spring/early summer. Late April to mid-June I would say. Too early and the passes may still hold snow and not be open. Too late and the freshness of spring and the wildflowers will have dried up.

Because the altitude can change radically on one’s travels and the latitude has a part to play so generalizations are hazardous. Still one must take one’s chances.

On our way home we found ourselves camping next to Bear Creek in southern Idaho. Bear Creeks exist thickly in the west along with Deer, Boulder, Rocky, and Beaver versions. Never-the-less the spot was extraordinarily full of wild flowers.

The mountains and cliffs around us were stunning and the tallest peak in Idaho looked down upon us.

I will leave you here with a sampling of what we enjoyed.
