Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch

I was working outside yesterday on a sunny afternoon and I became alerted to a lot of cawing from the local crows. It was coming from down the street and I had an idea what it was so I grabbed the camera and walked down the street to check it out.

Some of the self-satisfied posse after having chased the hawk out of the neighborhood.

As I suspected a hawk was in the neighborhood and the crows objected. Perhaps two dozen crows were taking turns harrying the hawk as it hunkered down in a spruce. I managed a short very poor video. At the start you can see the dark form of the hawk bury itself deeper into the treetop. The hawks come swooping in and I could often hear their wings clip the boughs of the trees so close were their rushes. The crows are calling almost continuously.

The wind picked up and made the audio almost intolerable, my apologies. It might be better viewed muted.

Finally on the last frames the dark body of hawk exits to the right.
