Fading Fall Light

Fading Fall Light

As we pass through a spectacular fall I capture a few intimate landscapes in the failing evening light. Windy conditions challenged my ability to capture some delicate subjects. The warm slanting light highlighting many subjects.

Technical notes: Shot with my GFX 50s ii and Zuiko 135mm f2.8 lens. I used the Classic Chrome film simulation which benefits from some underexposure to keep saturated colors. I made minor changes in post, including black and white points, contrast, brightness and on two occasions saturation.

The gusty wind today on subjects made shooting ISO 100 challenging in the low light of the forest floor. Fortunately the Zuiko 135mm is very sharp at f2.8 which helps. I also learned a new trick for upping the shutter speed in challenging wind conditions. I under-expose by 1 or 2 stops knowing I can lift some detail in post. I manipulated the JPEG versions but raw would have given me more range if needed.

A spot of sun would not allow me to miss this spray of grass.
Red leaves against cedar bark on the forest edge.
Fall leaves float on a pond surface.
Ferns struck by afternoon light.
Mollie my patient photography companion.
