A Return to Roosevelt Grove in Fall
Last summer I visited Roosevelt Cedar Grove for the first time. It is a place that was preserved by President Theodore Roosevelt at the behest of a local forester in the early part of the 20th century. The trees are estimated to be between 800 and 2,000 years old.
There is a short steep hike beside a waterfall but the best part is found by hiking up the valley to the Upper Grove. Here a side-trail takes you amongst the giants. I brought along my Fuji GFX 50s ii and only had my 135mm f2.8 Olympus lens. Thus I did not capture the giants. Instead I concentrated on the small details in the forest.
The fungus was out in immense quantities in a wide variety of different fruiting bodies. The Larch were just starting to yellow prior to shedding their needles. There was a fine mix of yellows, reds, and oranges in the deciduous leaves.
